  ANCHORAGE HIGH SCHOOL
CLASS OF 1951!
May 17, 1951       85 Anchorage High School graduates receive diplomas in commencement                                                       exercises  at the 4th Avenue Theatre at 8:oo PM
"John Gorsuch , President of the School Board, will present the diplomas to the graduates after introduction by Gordon Guffey.

Our Future and Alaska's has been chosen as the theme of the program.

Man's Efforts in the Political Field will be the topic from Harold Sogn, Student Body President.  Rad Akey, Senior Class President will discuss the Economic Phases of the Theme.

Top ranking students, Patricia Pazdral, Valedictorian and June Oberg, Salutatorian have chosen the Philosophical and Social aspects, respectively for their addresses.

Two selections, "One World" and "Faith of Our Fathers" will be sung by the school a-cappella choir.

Rev. Albert Sayers will deliver the invocation and benediction.

The processional and recessional will be played by Marquerite Renfrew.

THE BACCALAUREATE SERMON WAS DELIVERED BY CHAPLAIN WILLIAM J. CLASBY ON SUNDAY IN THE HIGH SCHOOL AUDITORIUM. "

The Anchorage Daily Times reported 85 grads, the Anchor reported 90 grads and everyone's memory recalls the grad number from 90 to 110.  Will we ever know? 

AHS IS GATHERING ON JUNE 15, 2001 TO CELEBRATE THE AHS '51 50TH CLASS REUNION!

MAY WE CELEBRATE AGAIN IN ANOTHER                                     50 YEARS!



On this date in 1951 the Northern Commercial Company Fashion Shop had a "SHOPPER-STOPPER" sale:  Western Lady Jeans: Regularly $2.50    NOW$2.00, Large Sized Jeans: Regularly $3.75   NOW $2.50, and Girl's Blue Jean Pedal Pushers:  regularly $2.50   NOW  $2.00.

The 4th Avenue theatre was closed for the AHS graduation ceremonies BUT the movie at the Empress Theater was "Hit the Ice" with Bud Abbott and Lou Costello.  The Denali Theatre was showing: "The Fountainhead" with Gary Cooper and Patricia Neal.  The 2nd "exciting Hit" was Hopalong Cassidy in "Bar-20"!

Hewitt's Drugs, Inc was selling Richard Hudnut Home Permanents with the new whirl-a-wave curlers.  A special combination package was on sale for $3.00.

The 7 Seas Club presented Vernon and Draper plus music by the Sophist-O-Cats, Master of Ceremonies: Jack O'Toole.
